Explorers at 150th Sheffield (Wadsley) — Information for Young People and Parents
Explorers is the section of Scouting for young people aged 14–18, offering more independence, challenge, and responsibility than earlier sections. Hillsborough Explorers (WedHExU) meet during term time on Wednesdays at 2000 - 2145.

Where and how we meet
WedHExU is based at Wadsley Scout Hut, but meetings often take place at other venues; recent examples include:
  • Ready, steady, cook at HQ
  • Climbing at The Foundry Climbing Centre
  • A Visit to Yorkshire Artspace
  • Ice Skating at Ice Sheffield
  • Bike Ride to Penistone
  • Theatre visit to the Lantern Theatre
  • Outdoor locations for navigation, hiking, and expedition training
Our programme helps our Explorers gain important life skills - such as teamwork, leadership and organisation; building confidence, skills and independence (which also happen to be exactly the kinds of skills employers look for).

What Explorers do
Explorers shape much of their own programme. They:
  • Help choose the activities, camps, and expeditions they want to run
  • Take a leading role in planning and running their own expeditions
  • Work towards badges, Scouting awards, and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award if they choose with Hexnet
Many Explorers also volunteer as Young Leaders with Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, or Scouts at the 150th & 183rd, gaining leadership experience that strengthens their CVs, post 16 and 18 applications, and confidence.

How Explorers communicate
WedHExU shares updates, plans, and reminders through facebook and email:  facebook.com/groups/221057912349210 or [email protected]

Why not become a Young Leader?

Take on the challenge of being a Young Leader and give something back to your community while developing new skills?

As a 14–18 year old, becoming a Young Leader at the 150th Wadsley or 183rd Hillsborough Scout Group allows you to support the section leadership team to deliver fun, high-quality programmes in Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, or Scouts. It’s a great way to volunteer in Scouting, complete your volunteering section of your DofE Award, build confidence and leadership experience, complete the Young Leaders’ Training Scheme, and make a real difference by supporting the next generation of Scouts.
