The Great indoors
We've suspended scouting because of the COVID-19 outbreak, but that doesn't mean you can't still get involved with scouts from home. Here's are a few ideas to do while we are unable to meet.
The Scout Association has also some put together a list of ideas here

Parents when you email them if you are happy for them to go on fb here just let me know either way and I’ll pop up some of the best ones. I hope that your leaders will sign off Part 2 of your world challenge, part of your artists if it’s a picture or something else that I can think of.

what3words Treasure Hunt
You will need a phone with the what3words app installed and compass is recommended. what3words is an app which divides the world into 3m x 3m squares and gives them a unique 3 word reference. It's a really useful app for giving precise information about where you are, so much so that mountain rescue now use the app to help in finding casualties, so it is something we are keen to include when we do navigation.
The first locations will be shared below, type these into the search bar (where there is more than on location, pick the one in the UK). The app should show you the direction to the next point, however when I tried on my phone, the direction arrow kept changing and a compass would have been really useful to set the map, and maybe even trying some bearings! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAzxlD-igb8 have a look at this video for more info on setting a map, apologies it is a little dry)
The routes are:
On the Wadsley Common routes, there is a letter to collect on each card, these form an anagram of a popular scouting phrase, send us these words to [email protected] to check your word.
Please don't remove any cards from where they have been put, if you suspect one has been moved, please let us know and we will try to sort out a replacement.

The routes are:
- Worrall - start point: prefer.yarn.ship (this was set up by worrall resident Liza Siddall and we thought it was such a good idea, we decided to make our own!)
- Wadsley Common (easier) - start point: shield.pads.singer
- Wadsley Common (harder) - start point: fish.merit.space (this was set up for explorers to use so the cards are slightly more hidden, however Phil is more than happy for scouts to give it a try too)

We usually have a challenge night once a year at Friday Scouts. We have decided to still offer the challenges, while we are socially distancing, for the scouts to try at home. It is open to all scouts from all three troops. Feel free, if you wish to email examples of your scout's scores, or some examples of work, to [email protected]. Each challenge is worth five points.
- Make a leader a cup of tea or coffee (parents will have to take the mantle of leaders I'm afraid).
- Design a Campsite imagining you could shrink the Troop and place them into a shoe box.
- Demonstrate a talent, be this musical, theatrical or anything of the ilk.
- Learn how to tie and demonstrate to an adult the fokowing: Sheep Shank, Sheet Bend, Fisherman's hitch and Diagonal lashing.
- Using a calculator, or arithmetic if you fancy, multiply the height in metres of the highest mountain in England, Scotland and Wales.
- Ben, one of the leaders, has a song which goes 'Our camp fire is bigger than your camp fire, than your campfire than yours'. Improve this, please.
- Think of twenty different and original uses for a wooden spoon.
- Communicate with a friend from scouting and ask them how they are doing.
- Using household objects, make a parachute and see if you can delay the fall of a small vegetable to the ground. (we'd usually use eggs, but hey, these are unprecidented times... No mess!).
- Learn how to tie an arm sling.
